The connector transition is being reported one press release at a time, which makes it hard to answer the only question an owner has: what do I need to buy? This page puts the makes side by side. It covers two different adapters that people constantly conflate - the cheap passive AC adapter that matters in your garage, and the manufacturer DC adapter that matters at a fast charger.

Read this first.A native NACS port does not mean "no adapters." It moves the adapter from the road to the driveway: NACS cars need a small AC adapter for the huge J1772 Level 2 network, and CCS cars need a DC adapter for Superchargers. Nobody escapes entirely, and both parts are cheap next to the charger itself.

What none of this changes

The wall charger. A J1772 Level 2 unit serves a J1772 car directly and a NACS car through a small adapter, at exactly the same speed, because the plug shape does not alter the power - that is the point of J1772 vs NACS connectors. So the transition is not a reason to delay installing a charger, which is the single upgrade that makes an EV cheap to run. Buy from the main Level 2 roundup, size the circuit with the amperage guide, and treat the connector as a five-minute shopping decision at the end.

Which EV brands have a native NACS port right now?

Does a native NACS port mean I never need an adapter?

No - it reverses which one you need. A NACS car plugs into a Supercharger without an adapter but needs a small J1772-to-NACS AC adapter for the far larger J1772 Level 2 network, including most home chargers.

Is the manufacturer DC adapter the same as the cheap plug adapter?

No. Manufacturer NACS DC adapters are active, vehicle-validated devices for fast charging. The inexpensive passive adapters are AC-only, for home and destination charging. They are not interchangeable.

Should the connector change which home charger I buy?

Rarely. A J1772 wall charger plus a cheap adapter covers both worlds and stays useful as cars change. A native NACS wall unit is worth it mainly if you want no dongle and every car in the driveway is NACS.
