Genesis GV60 & Electrified GV70: Home Charging Time and Cost
What Genesis's 800-volt electric SUVs cost to charge overnight, how long the 77.4 kWh pack takes at the 48-amp onboard limit, and the charger that fits.

A Genesis GV60 or Electrified GV70 charges at home for roughly ten dollars for a typical 10-to-80-percent top-up on its 77.4 kWh pack, overnight. The number that sets the speed is the onboard AC charger: both accept up to about 11 kW, or 48 amps, so a charger rated higher adds nothing at home. Here is the time, the cost and the charger that fits, with the arithmetic shown.
The 48-amp ceiling is the car, not the charger
Both Genesis EVs share Hyundai-Kia's 800-volt E-GMP platform, built for very fast DC charging on a trip. At home on ACthey are limited by the onboard charger to roughly 11 kW (about 48 amps). That cap is in the car; a bigger wall unit cannot exceed it. A 48-amp charger on a 60-amp circuit reaches the car's limit, though a 40-amp unit is only marginally slower on this mid-size pack - see best Level 2 chargers.
How long it takes
At the full 11 kW, a GV60 or Electrified GV70 adds roughly 28 to 32 miles of range per hour. With a 77.4 kWh pack, an overnight charge comfortably covers even a big daily refill.
Roughly, at 48 amps / 11 kW (77.4 kWh gross, ~74 kWh usable):
- Overnight 10 to 80 percent (~54 kWh): about 5 hours
- A 40-mile daily commute back: about 1.5 hours
- Empty to full: about 7 hours - easily an overnight charge
Plugged in nightly, either Genesis is full every morning with hours to spare - the mid-size pack is a comfortable fit for a standard overnight window.
What it costs
Same formula as any EV. For a 10-to-80-percent refill (~54 kWh into the pack):
- Energy drawn from the wall: 54 / 0.90 = ~60 kWh
- At the US average of about $0.16/kWh: 60 x $0.16 = about $9.60
- Cost per mile at ~2.8 mi/kWh: about 5.7 cents, or ~$5.70 per 100 miles
Your electricity rate is the whole story; overnight time-of-use rates lower it further. Run your own number below, then see off-peak charging.

Put in your electricity rate, your battery size and your car's efficiency. The math is the same one shown above, with a 10% charging loss included so the number is realistic.
- $8.09
- A 10% to 80% charge
- $11.56
- A full (empty to 100%) charge
- $0.05
- Cost per mile
- $5.08
- Cost per 100 miles
Estimate only. Actual cost depends on your exact utility rate (including any time-of-use pricing and fees), your car's real efficiency, temperature, and charging losses. Check your electric bill for your true rate.
The charger: J1772 at home for current models
Current GV60 and Electrified GV70 models use a J1772 connector for home AC charging, so any Level 2 J1772 charger plugs straight in - the compact 48-amp Wallbox Pulsar Plus or the value Emporia Level 2 both fit well. Newer Genesis models are moving to native NACS as the standard shifts; if your car has a NACS port, use a NACS charger or add a J1772-to-NACS adapter. Genesis's NACS DC adapter is for Superchargers on the road, not your home charger - see the NACS transition explainer.

A compact, fast, hardwired install
Wallbox Pulsar Plus (48A)
One of the smallest 48-amp chargers you can hang on a wall — full-speed hardwired charging in a box that barely announces itself.

Most homes that want speed and smarts
Emporia Level 2 (48A)
The charger that refuses to charge you extra for being smart: full 48-amp speed and real energy monitoring at roughly the price of a plain plug-in box.

Questions
Frequently asked
What amp charger does a Genesis GV60 or Electrified GV70 need?
Up to about 48 amps (11 kW) - the onboard AC limit both accept. A 48-amp charger on a 60-amp circuit reaches the car's ceiling; on this mid-size 77.4 kWh pack a common 40-amp unit is only slightly slower and perfectly adequate.
Do Genesis EVs charge fast at home because they are 800-volt?
The 800-volt architecture makes them very fast on DC fast chargers on a road trip. At home on AC, they are capped near 11 kW like most EVs - the 800-volt advantage does not apply to home charging.
How much does it cost to charge a Genesis GV60 at home?
Roughly $10 for a 10-to-80-percent top-up at the US-average rate, or about 5 to 6 cents a mile. Your own electricity rate sets the exact number; the calculator above runs it.
