The Volkswagen ID.4 accepts up to 11 kW (about 48 amps) on newer model years, but some earlier US cars were limited to 7.2 kW. That difference decides whether a 48-amp charger is worth it, so check your car before you buy - on a 7.2 kW ID.4, a 40-amp charger delivers full speed for less.
How long it takes
On the ~82 kWh battery at 11 kW, a 10-to-80-percent top-up is about 5.5 hours; at 7.2 kW it stretches to roughly 8 hours. Either way it is an overnight charge, adding 20 to 30 miles of range per hour depending on the onboard rate.

Connector and charger
The ID.4 uses a J1772 port, so any Level 2 charger fits. If yours is an 11 kW car, a 48-amp charger gives full speed; if it is a 7.2 kW car, a 32 to 40-amp unit is the smarter buy. Use a NACS-to-J1772 adapter for Tesla-style chargers.
