Lucid Air: Home Charging Time and Cost

A rare 19.2 kW onboard charger plus class-leading efficiency means the Air banks miles faster than almost any EV. Here is the math.

The Lucid Air is one of only a handful of EVs whose onboard charger accepts up to 19.2 kW - about 80 amps- and because the Air is the most efficient EV on sale, it turns that power into more miles per hour than anything else at home. A standard 48-amp charger works fine; a bigger circuit is what unlocks the Air's party trick.

Efficiency changes the math

Range added per hour is power multiplied by efficiency, and the Air wins on both. At a normal 48 amps (11.5 kW) the efficient Air already adds roughly 45 miles of range per hour - more than a thirstier SUV gets from the same charger. Feed it the full 19.2 kW from an 80-amp circuit and that climbs toward 70-plus miles per hour, refilling even the long-range pack in a short evening.

The charger to use

The Air uses a J1772 AC port, so any Level 2 charger fits (add a NACS-to-J1772 adapter for Tesla-style units). For most owners a 48-amp charger is plenty - the Air is efficient enough that 48 amps already outpaces most cars.
