Chevy Equinox EV, Blazer EV & Bolt: Home Charging Time and Cost
GM's value EVs charge at a normal home rate - but the older Bolt and the Ultium SUVs differ. Here is what each one draws, and what it costs.

Chevy's Ultium SUVs - the Equinox EV and Blazer EV - accept up to 11.5 kW (48 amps) at home, so a 48-amp Level 2 charger is the fastest useful option. The older Bolt EV/EUV is the exception: it tops out lower on many model years, so a big charger is wasted on it.
How long it takes
Equinox EV / Blazer EV (~85 kWh) do 10 to 80 percent in about 5 to 5.5 hours at 48 amps. The Bolt (~65 kWh) takes a bit longer per kWh because its onboard charger is smaller on many years - check yours, because paying for a 48-amp charger it cannot use is money wasted.

Connector and charger
These use a J1772 port today (GM is moving to NACS with an adapter on 2024+ and native NACS after), so any J1772 Level 2 charger fits. For the Equinox/Blazer, a 48-amp unit gives full speed; for a Bolt, a budget 32 to 40-amp charger is plenty.

What charger does a Chevy Equinox EV need?
Up to 48 amps (11.5 kW) - so a 48-amp Level 2 charger is the fastest useful option. The Blazer EV is the same. The older Bolt often accepts less, so confirm your model year before buying a large charger it cannot use.
Is a Bolt slower to charge at home?
Per kWh, often yes - many Bolt model years have a smaller onboard AC charger than the Ultium SUVs, so a 48-amp charger does not speed it up. A 32 to 40-amp charger is the sensible, cheaper choice for a Bolt.
